Safety
How we keep events safe.
If a child is in immediate danger
Call 911In BC, anyone who believes a child may be at risk of abuse or neglect must report it, any time, day or night:

If you’re worried about something.
Talk to our child safety lead at safety@buniyaad.ca, or to any organizer at an event.
- Parents stay
- Students under 19 come with a parent, guardian or another adult family member aged 19 or over. They stay for the whole event.
- Two organizers, always
- At least two Buniyaad organizers are present from start to finish.
- No private contact
- Mentors don’t message students, and no mentor profile shows contact details. Follow-up goes through Buniyaad, with the parent included.
- Photos only with permission
- We ask the parent or guardian at the event before photographing a child, and you can change your mind at any time. We never publish a child’s name with a photo.
- Credentials checked
- We check every mentor’s credentials against the public register for their field, or confirm training from outside Canada another way, and record who checked and when.
- Every mentor briefed
- Before their first event: these rules, and their legal duty to report a concern about a child’s safety.
One-to-one mentoring. Not now. And the bar is much higher.
If we ever offer it, every mentor involved first completes full screening: an application, a credential check, a criminal record check, two references, an interview, training and signed agreements. Parents give written consent, and can always see how their child and the mentor communicate.
